Hi lovely! I’m so excited to share this beautiful cottage with you and hope you find the time to stay here! I stumbled upon The Sweeney Cottage while I was searching for a place to stay to visit the Nashville area. As soon as I found the listing, I saw that the dates were open and that it was a typically booked rental. I jumped on it right away and I cannot tell you how HAPPY I am that I did! The directions were incredibly easy from Little Rock and it was a surprise to find that the cottage is the only nightly rental nestled in the heart of the historic Leiper’s Fork village, roughly 15 minutes from Franklin, Tennessee. Originally built in 1892, the cottage was home for the Carl Sweeney family. White’s Room and Board has done a phenomenal job at preserving the history of this century and a quarter year old home. You can feel the warmth and comfort of home as soon as you walk inside.
When you first walk in, you have entered into the den with the original fireplace. Also on the bottom level, is the kitchen, bathroom, dining room and enclosed sun room with a trundle bed. In this room are two Gibson guitars ready to be strummed by the guests! The rental is the entire cottage with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom and sleeps 6 people. It’s evident that passion went into renovating this one-of-a-kind historic cottage. The decor is intentional and dreamy, a perfect spot to relax and soak in history that meets today’s cottage-style decor. One of my favorite amenities of the cottage is the front porch swing! Who doesn’t love a good ol’ southern sit on a porch swing? We enjoyed our morning coffee on the front porch while my husband played guitar, provided by The Sweeney Cottage! The rest of the house is beautifully and comfortably adorned.
An old pine farm table sits peacefully in the dining room ready for guests to gather around and share southern cooking. The walls are engulfed with photos of days gone by and rare antiques, including plates and a high school diploma that you’re sure to not find anywhere else. That’s what makes The Sweeney Cottage so special is the deliberate use of family artifacts that make you feel as though you are apart of the family. We felt like we were in our grandmother’s home.
The kitchen is perfectly appointed for entertaining just a few, your family or any invited friends. The bathroom is shabby chic with blush pink walls and gold speckled throughout. Complimentary toiletries and a stack-able washer and dryer complete with detergent and fabric softener are also located in the bathroom. Who could ask for anything more?
Follow the staircase, which is hidden behind a door, to the upper level of the cottage. You’ll arrive in a quaint nook with built in bookshelves and a comfortable queen-sized bed piled with beautiful floral pillows. Through another door, you arrive in the master bedroom overflowing with charm and natural sunlight. Two blush pink chairs and a desk area compliment the pristine white and comfortable queen-sized bed.
Right next-door to The Sweeney Cottage is another historic home which has become an elegant restaurant called 1892, popular with locals and travelers alike. Just a few steps from the front porch, you’ll enjoy several quaint, local shops filled with antiques, wonderful local art, gifts and clothing. The surrounding countryside is peppered with beautiful estates, each on acres of green rolling hills and pastures filled with thorough bred horses. So, if you’re looking for a calm, relaxing location for a getaway, you’re sure to find everything you’re looking for at The Sweeney Cottage in Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee!
