Hey there, southern friends! Thank you for being here with me today. It’s a great day to have a great day! If you’re just joining us here, WELCOME!! I’m so glad you’ve stumbled across my little corner of the internet. Today’s post is one that I’m super excited about. Over the past year and a half, we have made careful and considerate decisions regarding upgrades to our home. If we were to sell our home in the future, these decisions will have helped to increase the value of our home. Today, we are going over the 6 upgrades to your home that you should consider for your current lifestyle, and for possible financial gain in the future. Let’s get to it!
1. Painting (Interior & Exterior)
Paint can make all the difference in the world! Take a look around and see if there are any spots of opportunity for a paint upgrade. For instance, there may be chips in the paint that you haven’t noticed, but might want to go ahead and get that taken care of. Inspect all walls, trim, ceilings and doors inside. Outside, inspect the garage, front and any other doors/trim for opportunities to improve. Make it your own! The paint sets the tone for the rest of the home from outside to inside the front door.
2. Kitchen Countertops

The kitchen is where the magic happens, am I right? Home-cooked meals, coffee being brewed, and memories being made. Therefore, it’s so important to have high-quality counter tops, not only for the appeal, but also the functionality and longevity. I recommend the Cambria Countertops from Premier Surfaces. This collection is a quartz counter top design with over 145 designs that are offered in either matte or high-gloss finish that are nonporous, scratch and stain resistant. The kitchen counter tops are a gorgeous statement to your home and should be chosen from the highest quality!
3. Bathrooms & Powder Rooms
Based on the year of the house, the bathrooms might be a tad outdated. Some things to consider when optimizing these spaces are paint (as mentioned above), bathroom hardware (faucets, shower heads), toilets, vanities and mirrors. Not everything has to be changed or changed all at once. Over time, you can decide which working parts of these rooms are important to you. Overall, any upgrades you give to your bathrooms and powder rooms will update the house and work towards increasing your home’s value.
4. Flooring (Throughout Entire House)
How does the carpet look? Is it clean, stained, pulling up or looks worn down? How does the hardwood look? Is it obvious to you that it’s old and has a real scratched look to it? These are definitely questions to consider while inspection the flooring of your home. Even in the bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, etc. Along with the paint, the flooring goes hand-in-hand with the tone and mood of the home. Consider coming up with a plan over time for upgrades.
5. Driveway
Take this opportunity to look for any cracks in the driveway that may need to be re-cemented or completely re-done and/or re-designed. I know how frustrating it can be to continuously drive into a cracking driveway with bumps and grooves in it. Tackling this upgrade will make you and the exterior of the home happy happy happy along with our next opportunity.
6. Landscaping
Ah. Landscaping. The personality of your home outside. If this is an area you are wanting to spruce up, I suggest adding in some color. My favorites are knock-out roses, azaleas, loropetalum, and crepe myrtles. Try mixing in these with your favorite greenery from a local garden center and adding stones, or landscaping rocks. Ultimately, you’re wanting to create that appealing and homey look outside that introduces the home. Imagine your yard saying “Hi! Welcome! Come on in!”
There you have it, folks! These are my upgrade recommendations that I suggest you look into at some point during your home ownership. Now, I’m fully aware that these are costly expenses! I truly understand that and am not suggesting that you must change anything in your home. These are merely suggestions based off of my own personal experience. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading and have drawn some inspiration from these 6 upgrades in your home to consider. As always, feel free to leave a comment or ask any questions. I love hearing from you!
